Course Description

Dr. Graham Reynolds will be offering this Open Online Learning course that focuses on the life and times of Viola Desmond, Canada’s civil rights icon and pioneer Black businesswoman. The course also provides an overview of the history of Blacks and racial segregation in Canada. Participants can enroll in the course for credit, certificate of participation, or as an audit. In addition to regular on-campus classes held in CC261, the course will be live streamed with participation available through our online classroom (Moodle).

Course Outline

Those registered for the Certificate of Participation in HIST2704 will be required to participate in a meaningful way in at least half of the activities posted within the online classroom.

About the Instructor:

Dr.Graham Reynolds is Professor Emeritus and the Viola Desmond Chair in Social Justice at Cape Breton University. He teaches courses in the history of race relations and social studies methodology and is author of Viola Desmond’s Canada: A History of Blacks and Racial Segregation in the Promised Land.
